Rocket League developer Psyonix is teaming up with video game streaming outfit Twitch to create the Rocket League Championship Series.
The new tournament, broadcast exclusively on Twitch, will be the game’s official eSports competition, and will offer teams of three players the chance to win a cut of a $75,000 prize pool.
The inaugural three-month season will kick off in March with a round of open qualifiers, with all matches due to be played on the PS4 and Windows PC.
“From the moment we hit the pitch last July, we knew that Rocket League was a legitimate eSport,” said Psyonix VP, Jeremy Dunham. “Twitch and its streamers have been an instrumental part of our success since we launched last July.”
Dunham recently revealed that almost 4 million copies of Rocket League have been purchased across PC and PS4.
He also announced that the game, which has more than 12 million registered players, has brought in over $70 million in revenue since launching last year.
